It is a full-time undergraduate university sponsored by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. Its predecessor can be traced back to Yongchuan Teachers' College, established in 1976. In 2005, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Yongchuan Teachers' College and Chongqing Yuxi University merged to form Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences.
