The Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) is Brazil's foremost research and educational institution in mathematics, founded on October 15, 1952. As the first research unit established by the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), IMPA has grown to become a world-renowned center for mathematical research and education. Located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, the institute houses over 40 researchers working in areas such as dynamical systems, probability, computer graphics, and fluid dynamics. IMPA offers graduate programs in mathematics and is responsible for the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP), which engages over 18 million students across Brazil. The institute has consistently maintained the highest grades from Brazil's education evaluation system and plays a crucial role in disseminating mathematical knowledge throughout Latin America.
